The Pacific Association of First Nations Women is proud
to have worked with Joy Chalmers since April 1, 2003. Joy was dedicated
to enriching the lives of Indigenous children, youth and families
through our Home Care Services, Mentor Me and Urban Butterflies programs.
Joy
Chalmers was a pillar of strength and resilience and had dedicated her
life to the work of the Pacific Association of First Nations Women. She
founded and managed our Home Care Services and brought our business from
one employee to over 40. She worked tirelessly to provide Indigenous
children in care with connection to cultural teachings and outings on
her weekends. From the Urban Butterflies program to Mentor Me,
Joy had touched many lives. We are very proud and fortunate to have had
her working with our Association and providing much needed supports to
our families who are struggling with child apprehension.
PAFNW
would like to thank Joy’s family for sharing her with us all these
years. We are grateful for the lasting legacy she has created. May she
rest in peace.
On June 9, 2021, a celebration of life and pipe
ceremony was held in Joy’s honour. We’d like to thank Elder Aline
LaFlamme for leading the ceremony and everyone who attended for showing
their love and support.
